Czchów and Rożnów Lakes
Czchów and Rożnów Lakes are two artificial reservoirs on the Dunajec River, located in the picturesque area of the Rożnów Foothills in Lesser Poland. They were created mainly for flood control and energy production, but today they are a popular tourist destination. The surrounding hills, forests, and meadows provide ideal conditions for hiking, while the lake surface invites relaxation by the water. A good starting point is Wytrzyszczka, where you can park and take a ferry. From there, you can see the ruins of Tropsztyn Castle, which according to legend is linked to an Inca treasure. The trail continues through Witowice Dolne, wetlands, and flower-filled meadows to Rożnów. There you will find the Tarnowski Castle – a former fortress with walls up to 3 meters thick, and the classicist Stadnicki Manor. In summer, historical reenactments are held here. It is an excellent place for families, couples, and groups seeking active outdoor recreation. Entry to the lake area is free, and parking and cafes are available nearby.
