Ducal Tower in Siedlęcin

The Ducal Tower in Siedlęcin is one of the most valuable medieval monuments in Lower Silesia. It is located in the small village of Siedlęcin, near Jelenia Góra, on the Bóbr River. This massive Gothic residential and defensive tower was built in the second decade of the 14th century on the initiative of Duke Henry I. Constructed on a rectangular plan measuring 15 by 22 meters, it reaches a height of 19 meters, with walls up to 3 meters thick. It was surrounded by a moat and a defensive wall, fragments of which have survived. In the 18th century it was converted into a granary, and in 1732 it came into the possession of the Schaffgotsch family. The main attraction is the unique medieval wall paintings in the Great Hall on the first floor, depicting scenes from the legend of Sir Lancelot – the only such frescoes in Poland and among the few in Europe. Visitors can also explore a historical exhibition on the ground floor. The tower is open seasonally, daily from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM. Tickets are affordable, and paid parking and toilets are available on site. It is an ideal destination for history enthusiasts, families, and school trips.
