Riese Complex
The Riese Complex is a mysterious Nazi construction project from World War II, located in the Owl Mountains in Lower Silesia. The central point of the construction was the village of Walim, about 20 km from Wałbrzych. In 1943, work began on a network of underground tunnels and corridors in seven locations: Osówka, Rzeczka, Jawornik, Włodarz, Soboń, Gontowa, and Książ Castle in Wałbrzych. They were likely intended to serve as an underground command center for the Third Reich, including Hitler's headquarters and staffs of various armed forces. To this day, no construction plans have been found, and the complex's purpose remains a mystery. Tours include routes in Osówka, the Walim Tunnels, Włodarz, and the cellars of Książ Castle. It is a fascinating attraction for history enthusiasts, families, school groups, and individual tourists. The site is open seasonally, and a visit typically takes over 4 hours. Accommodations are available in Walim, Jugów, and Głuszyca.
