Royal Castle in Niepołomice
The Royal Castle in Niepołomice is a former residence of Polish monarchs, located in a small town east of Kraków. Built on the initiative of Casimir the Great, it served as a base for royal hunts in the Niepołomice Forest. During the Jagiellonian era, it was often called the second capital of Poland, as kings such as Władysław Jagiełło, Sigismund the Old, and Sigismund Augustus frequently stayed here. Today, the castle charms with its Renaissance courtyard featuring arcades and cloisters, and inside visitors can explore exhibitions of paintings, photography, and hunting trophies. The grounds also include the reconstructed Queen Bona's Gardens, a hotel, and a civil registry office. The site is open to the public, and current ticket prices and opening hours are available from the Niepołomice Museum. It is an ideal destination for families, couples, and groups interested in Polish medieval and Renaissance history.
