Castle in Niemodlin

📍 Niemodlin, PL🕒 1–3 hours€€ Moderate

The Castle in Niemodlin is a Renaissance-Baroque fortress located in the Opole Voivodeship, in the heart of the town. Its history dates back to the 14th century, when it was built by the Piast dynasty. The castle impresses with massive walls, a characteristic gate tower with sgraffito decoration, and an arcaded courtyard inspired by Wawel. Fallow deer live on the grounds, and inside there is a restaurant and café. Guided tours include the Torture Chamber, a collection of icons, and stories about legends such as the White Lady and the Dissolute Monks. After the visit, it is worth strolling through the unique spindle-shaped market square with 18th- and 19th-century townhouses and a Gothic church. Nearby attractions include the Niemodlin Forests, the castle in Tułowice, the palace in Dąbrowa, and the War Prisoners Cemetery in Łambinowice. The region is also famous for carp farming, a regional product celebrated with a festival in autumn.
