Lake Żywiec

📍 Żywiec, PLFree🕒 4+ hoursSeasonal

Lake Żywiec, also known as the Żywiec Lagoon, is an artificial retention reservoir at the foot of the Beskids, near the town of Żywiec. Built between 1960 and 1966 after a catastrophic flood, it is now a popular recreational area. The lake covers about 10 km², reaches a maximum depth of 26.8 m, and has a shoreline of 33.7 km. Swimming is only allowed at designated, guarded beaches. The most popular ones include the City Beach in Żywiec (Moszczanka Bay) – free of charge, with sandy and grassy areas, food stalls, and rentals of kayaks and paddleboards. It offers beautiful sunsets and proximity to the city center. The beach in Zarzecze has a quieter atmosphere, free parking, and views of the Beskid peaks – perfect for sunrises and walks along the embankment. Visitors can enjoy water sports, sailing, and boat cruises. It is an excellent spot for families, couples, and groups seeking active relaxation surrounded by mountains.
