Mysłakowice

Mysłakowice is a unique village in the Jelenia Góra Valley, Lower Silesia, combining royal history, Tyrolean architecture, and an unusual attraction – a gate made from a replica of a whale jaw. In the 19th century, it became the summer residence of Prussian King Frederick William III, and the palace was redesigned by renowned architect Karl Friedrich Schinkel in the Gothic Revival style. Today the palace houses a school, but the 13-hectare English park is open to visitors. In the park, you can see a replica of a bowhead whale jaw – the original is kept in the local history museum. At the edge of the park stands Villa Liegnitz in Tyrolean style, built for the Duchess of Legnica. The Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, also designed by Schinkel, features Alpine architecture. Mysłakowice is perfect for a few-hour trip for families and history enthusiasts, and serves as a great base for exploring the surrounding palaces and the Karkonosze Mountains.
