Rezerwat Przyrody Bór na Czerwonem
The Bór na Czerwonem Nature Reserve is located in the southern part of Nowy Targ, at ul. Lotników 2, about 2 km from the market square. It is one of the few places in Poland where you can admire raised bogs – formations that grow upward, creating flat domes locally known as 'pustacie'. A viewing platform offers a panorama of the Tatra and Gorce mountains. An educational trail with information boards runs through the reserve. The reserve has been protected since 1925 and now covers over 194 ha. It is part of the Natura 2000 network and has been listed as a Ramsar site (wetlands of international importance) since 2018. Notable flora includes peat mosses, sundews, dwarf mountain pine, spotted orchid, and the alga Zygonium ericetorum, which turns red in autumn. The fauna includes roe deer, foxes, buzzards, storks, yellow-bellied toads, and adders. The reserve is wheelchair-accessible and stroller-friendly, with free parking nearby. Entry is free, and the visit takes about 30–60 minutes. It is a great short trip for everyone – from families to seniors.
