Museum of Nikifor in Krynica-Zdrój

📍 Krynica-Zdrój, PL🕒 1–3 hours€ Budget

The Museum of Nikifor in Krynica-Zdrój is housed in the historic blue villa 'Romanówka' on the main promenade of the spa town. It is dedicated to the life and work of Nikifor Krynicki, a renowned primitive painter who for years was considered a harmless eccentric. The museum displays his drawings, pastels, and paintings – mainly landscapes with a fairy-tale, slightly surreal quality. The exhibition includes photographs documenting his journey from a street artist to international fame, as well as personal items such as his favorite radio, painting tools, and a prayer book. Highlights include stamps designed by Nikifor to authenticate his works and begging letters written on his behalf. Although the collection is not extensive, the visit is an excellent introduction to the artist's oeuvre. After touring, you can follow in Nikifor's footsteps – to the monument near the Józef water pump and the cemetery where he is buried. The museum is easily accessible in the city center, with public transport nearby.
