Jaskinia Mroźna
Jaskinia Mroźna is one of the most famous caves in the Western Tatras, located in the Kościeliska Valley in Kościelisko. It sits at an altitude of 1100 m above sea level, in the Organy massif, about 120 m above the valley floor. Discovered in 1934 by Stefan Zwoliński and Tadeusz Zahorski, it was opened to tourists 25 years later. Its name comes from the low temperature inside (around 6°C) and white frost-like formations. The cave is 773 m long, with a main corridor of about 500 m. The route passes through various chambers, such as the Great Chamber (25×10 m), the Garden with stalagmites, and Sabałowe Lake – an artificial water reservoir. Until 2023 the cave was lit; now visitors need a flashlight and a helmet is recommended. The tour takes about 40 minutes and is self-guided. It is an excellent destination for families, teens, adults, and groups, offering a glimpse into the underground world of the Tatras. You can see stalactites, stalagmites, and moonmilk. The cave is open seasonally – check the schedule before visiting.
