Park Miejski imienia Wojciecha Biechońskiego Gorlice

Wojciech Biechoński Park in Gorlice is one of the oldest and most beautiful municipal parks in Poland, located at the confluence of the Ropa and Sękówka rivers, just 500 meters from the city center. Covering 24 hectares, it was established between 1887 and 1900 on the initiative of Mayor Wojciech Biechoński, who envisioned it as an open-air salon. The park features a mid-mountain character with natural, rocky landscapes, ravines, and boulders. The flat valley part is a typical strolling park, while Park Hill (350 m above sea level) and the steep escarpment overgrown with old-growth forest (Sokół Forest) have a woodland feel. The park boasts many coniferous and deciduous trees, including firs, pines, spruces, birches, maples, beeches, lindens, and the exotic tulip tree. On the escarpment lies the Kościelisko Rock with the Giant's Eyes Cave, offering picturesque views. Wildlife includes weasels, squirrels, spotted salamanders, and rare birds. Several monuments dot the park, such as a bust of Wojciech Biechoński, a statue of Kazimierz Pułaski, an Independence Monument, and a stone Monument of Lovers with hugging bear cubs. After renovation in 2017–2018, the park received new paths, footbridges, benches, lighting, and a renovated playground. Active visitors can enjoy a 2.5-km cycling path, an educational nature trail, and a fitness trail. A suspension bridge from 1956, known as "ławą" (the bench), leads to the park, and free parking is available from Dukielska Street.
