Wapiennik Łaskawy Kamień
Wapiennik Łaskawy Kamień (Łaskawy Kamień Lime Kiln) is a unique restored Rumford lime kiln – the third of its kind in Europe and the only one in Poland. It is located on the road from Stronie Śląskie to Kletno, in the Lower Silesian village of Stronie Śląskie. Built at the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries, the kiln operated until around 1920, producing quicklime for chemical, metallurgical, construction, and agricultural industries. After years of abandonment, it was purchased in 1978 by artist and professor Jacek Rybczyński, who renovated it, added a new floor, and transformed it into his home, studio, and art gallery. Today, the interior houses a printmaking studio and gallery, while the grounds feature a Japanese garden with gongs, a viewing terrace, and the latest attraction: a bat observatory equipped with cameras to watch hibernating lesser horseshoe and greater mouse-eared bats. Guided tours last 60 minutes and are available from May to August, Tuesday to Sunday, 10:00–17:30. Tickets are printed on handmade paper in the underground print shop. The site also hosts plein-air workshops, concerts, and literary evenings. In autumn and winter, visits are possible by prior phone reservation for groups of 4 or more.
