House of Carl and Gerhart Hauptmann in Szklarska Poręba

📍 Szklarska Poręba, PL🕒 1–3 hours€ Budget

The House of Carl and Gerhart Hauptmann in Szklarska Poręba is a museum dedicated to the life and work of the two writer brothers. Located in the picturesque Valley of Seven Houses, at the foot of a vast park, the building was once the heart of an artists' colony. Gerhart Hauptmann, a Nobel Prize laureate, and his brother Carl, author of 'The Book of the Mountain Spirit' (Rübezahlbuch), attracted artists from across Europe. Today, the museum preserves the legacy of the brothers and studies the artistic life of the Karkonosze region. It serves as a cultural center for the local artists' colony. Visitors can explore original interiors, memorabilia, and temporary exhibitions. The museum is wheelchair accessible, with a café and gift shop. Open Tuesday to Sunday, 9:00 AM–5:00 PM in summer, until 4:00 PM in winter. Free admission on Wednesdays.
