Chojnik Castle

Chojnik Castle is a stone fortress perched atop Mount Chojnik (627 m above sea level) in the Karkonosze Mountains, near Jelenia Góra. It lies within a strict nature reserve of the Karkonosze National Park. Built in the 1350s, it was owned for centuries by the Schaffgotsch family. Today it is a popular hiking destination. Two trails lead to the castle: the black trail, more varied, with the Dziurawy Kamień cave, and the red trail, a leisurely walk past Kunegunda Spring. Both merge after about 15 minutes. Climbing the tower rewards visitors with a panoramic view of the Karkonosze. The courtyard features a pillory, a well, and a dungeon. In summer, the Crossbow Tournament for the Golden Bolt is held (third weekend of August). On-site amenities include a tavern, a gift shop, and crossbow shooting. The castle is family-friendly, but the tower climb requires caution. Paid parking is available in Sobieszów.
