Görlitz

📍 Görlitz, DEFree🕒 4+ hours

Görlitz is one of the best-preserved historic cities in Germany, located in Saxony right at the Polish border. It boasts over 4,000 monuments from various eras, from Gothic to Art Nouveau. Strolling through the old town, you'll see Renaissance and Baroque townhouses, the town hall with its tower, and the Neptune Fountain. The city is nicknamed 'Görliwood' because its streets have served as a backdrop for numerous films, including 'The Grand Budapest Hotel' and 'Inglourious Basterds'. Must-see sights include the late Gothic Church of St. Peter and Paul, the synagogue, and three defensive towers. Visit the Silesian Museum in the oldest Renaissance burgher house and the Museum of History and Culture with the Baroque House. Outside the center, you'll find Lake Berzdorfer, created in 2013 by flooding a former coal mine, and Mount Landeskrone with a viewing tower. Görlitz is wheelchair accessible and offers cafes and restaurants. Entry to the old town is free.
