Kulturforum Görlitzer Synagogue

The Kulturforum Görlitzer Synagogue is a former synagogue in Görlitz that has been transformed into a cultural center and museum. Located at Otto-Müller-Straße 3 in the Saxon part of the city, the building was constructed between 1909 and 1911 by architects Walther William Lossow and Max Hans Kühne, who later designed Leipzig's main train station. The structure is renowned for its magnificent dome, considered the most beautiful between Dresden and Wrocław. Inside, visitors can explore exhibitions on the Jewish history of Görlitz from 1840 to 1945, as well as photographs by Matthias Lüttig documenting the synagogue's ruin. Regular guided tours in German are offered on Thursdays at 3:00 PM and on the first Sunday of the month at 2:00 PM; private tours for groups are also available. The venue hosts concerts, readings, and other cultural events – highlights in 2026 include a harp concert by Markus Thalheimer. On-site amenities include a café and a gift shop. The synagogue will be closed from July 20 to 26, 2026 due to floor renovations. Admission is charged; tickets can be purchased online or at the box office.
