Sanktuarium Pana Jezusa Miłosiernego Ciężkowice

📍 Ciężkowice, PL

The Sanctuary of Merciful Jesus in Ciężkowice is a Neo-Gothic church dedicated to Saint Andrew the Apostle, built between 1901 and 1902 according to the design of Jan Sas-Zubrzycki. Located at 8 św. Andrzeja Street in the Pogórze region, it is a three-nave basilica with a transept, featuring a tall tower with a helmet roof. Inside, visitors can admire stained glass windows from 1905 and polychromes from the 1940s and 1950s. The main treasure is the venerated image of Christ the Merciful Ecce Homo, painted on wood by an unknown artist. This sanctuary attracts many pilgrims seeking comfort in difficult times. Indulgences are celebrated on Pentecost and on November 30, the feast of Saint Andrew. The church was repaired after war damage in 1945. It is a valuable monument and a key tourist attraction in the region, often visited together with the nearby Skamieniałe Miasto nature reserve.
