Skamieniałe Miasto Ciężkowice

📍 Ciężkowice, PL🕒 1–3 hours

The Petrified City in Ciężkowice is a reserve of inanimate nature located in the Ciężkowickie Foothills in the Lesser Poland Voivodeship. The area has been protected since 1932 and became a reserve in 1974. Covering 15 hectares, it features whimsical sandstone formations formed about 60 million years ago on the bottom of the Tethys Ocean. The rocks resemble figures and objects, with names such as Czarownica (Witch), Ratusz (Town Hall), Baszta (Tower), Maczuga (Mace), Pyramid, Borsuk (Badger), and the Grunwald group. Each rock has its own legend, and a five-kilometer trail offers a great adventure for families. Nearby attractions include Wąwóz Czarownic (Witch Gorge) with a beautiful waterfall, Park Zdrojowy (Spa Park), and the Natural History Museum. Visitors have access to paid parking, guided tours, and bike racks. Public transport is available. The site is perfect for a 1-to-3-hour walk or bike ride.
