Świnoujście Fortress

Świnoujście Fortress is a 19th-century Prussian fortification complex built to defend the port of Świnoujście. The project was designed by Johann Leopold Ludwig Brese. Of the original four forts, three have survived: Fort Anioła, Fort Gerharda, and Fort Zachodni. The fourth, Fort I, was demolished in the 1970s. The fortress saw fighting in 1945, and on May 5 Soviet troops captured Świnoujście. Today the forts are a tourist attraction, perfect for history and fortification enthusiasts.
